Four Days till C2E2!
Monday, April 12th, 2010Only a few more days till we hit the road for Chicago and the great C2E2 conference. Should be a good time, even with a 10+ hour road trip to get there. That and being stuck with a vegetarian with gas problems means a large part of the drive having the windows down.
Anyone else going? Would love to meet up with some locals.
Amanda Waller is in the House!
Friday, April 2nd, 2010
For those of you who do not keep up with DC Comics, Amanda Waller is a force to be reckonded with. While she has no super powers, she has political and military might and knows how to use it. I remember her best leading a group called the Suicide Squad. This was a band of super villains sent on suicide missions that if they completed, and got home alive, they would be pardoned for their crimes.
Seeing her stand up to these baddies showed just how much brass she commanded. And now I am happy to hear (thanks Variety) that her character will be appearing in the upcoming Green Lantern movie! Not only that, but she will be portrade by Angela Bassett.
That last part gives me some pause, as much as I love Bassett, Waller is a fairly large woman. I am only going to guess Hollywood decided that they wanted a strong woman in the role and not necessarily a woman of ‘size’. Kind of a shame, but at least they got a quality actress for the roll.
Speaking of which, I am going to take a guess here and say that she will be doing what Nick Fury (Samuel Jackson) has been doing in the Marvel movies. Probably showing up, keeping an eye on these new super powered people and putting together a team in the future. Perhaps she will be the inspiration behind a Justice League of America movie!
Comic Alliance Announces ‘League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: 1988′
Friday, April 2nd, 2010So Comic Alliance is one of my favorite comic book news blogs out there. And yesterday they presented an excellent April Fools joke.

Its been awhile since we heard anything from Alan Moore about his Extraordinary Gentlemen property (talking the comic not the movie, he won’t talk about that thing at all), so when CA broke the news that a new series was coming up we were suspect. And what would be better than one based in America during the 1980′s!? I love the fact that all the team members are TV or Movie characters…since America has no literary history.
What a team too, here is their snipit on the project. Be sure to read their full article also.
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen – America: 1988When war-hero-turned-handyman Kesuke Miyagi is found drained of blood, it becomes clear that the occult gang known as the Lost Boys are targeting the only individuals that can stop them from complete domination of America. It’s the perfect case for the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen–except that their government contact, Oscar Goldman, disbanded the team in 1979 after they defeated Mr. Han’s army of the living dead.
Now, disgraced scientist Emmet Brown has to put together a new team to combat the growing threat of the Lost Boys and their leader, a newly resurrected vampire kingpin Tony Montana: Transportation specialist Jack Burton, ex-commando B.A. Baracus, tech wizard Angus MacGyver and the mysteriously powerful femme fatale known only as “Lisa.” But will Brown be able to stop the Lost Boys before time runs out?

The Next Captain America
Thursday, April 1st, 2010So most of you have already heard the news that Chris Evans, last seen flaming on the set of Fantastic Four 2 (honest, that is not a gay joke), will be Captain America in the upcoming Marvel Comics film. I really don’t see this as a good move, but then I laughed hard when I heard Michael Keaton would be Batman oh so many years ago.
I post this info just as a lead in for this awesome fan made poster of Chris. Who knows, maybe he will do a great job and I will eat my shield!
DC Heroes to Replace Harry Potter Franchise
Wednesday, March 24th, 2010Warner Brothers head Alan Horn has made it official, after the last Harry Potter film comes out (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows II, July 2011) the studio is switching gears from kid fantasy to super heroics! Heres the quote from Horn at ShoWest:
As we ease out of Harry Potter, we hope to bring you the excitement of the DC [Comics] Library!

On the horizon we have the Green Lantern film being released June 2011. And we have been reporting on the Batman and Superman franchises in pre-production. Also there is the Flash film that has been in the heavy rumor mill over the last year…but what else? What do you think should be the next big DC hero in the theaters?
