Iron Man 2 poster reveals War Machine

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Yahoo Movies has a great slide show of stills from the upcoming Iron Man 2 film. The sequel to the blockbuster 2008 hit will be released this coming May 7th and should be a blast! One of the nicest shots is of the newest poster, showing just how awesome War Machine will look in the film.

I am still a little upset that they swapped out the actors playing James Rhodes, but I do like Don Cheadle and know he will do a bangup job!

The JSA invade Smallville

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Entertainment Weekly has a nice feature on the Justice Society two-parter that will be part of Smallville coming up in February. The initial photos I saw of Michael Shanks (SG1) as Hawkman looked quite cumbersome and poorly put together. But these new shots really make him more believable as Carter Hall aka Hawkman.

And really…that Doctor Fate costume is amazing! I hope to see some people trying to recreate it at an upcoming convention.

Alien Legion to blast onto big screen!

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Alien LegionAlien Legion was a comic ahead of its time. The original mini-series was published back in the mid-80′s by Epic Comics and while not a big smash in sales, it was critically acclaimed. Over the years there have been a couple of series based off the original, each of them a good read. And yes, I still have my original set stored away.

Description from Wikipedia:
Alien Legion was an early Epic Comics title about the members of a military unit called Force Nomad, composed of the “dregs of the universe” and similar to the French Foreign Legion. The cast includes leader Sarigar, whose lower half is serpentine, fully humanoid Torie Montroc, and probably the most popular character, Jugger Grimrod, a Thraxian.

In 2010 we will see a resurgence of Legion activity, including a recently released Alien Legion Omnibus Volume 1 and word that Jerry Bruckheimer is working on a film for Disney. Bruckheimer can certainly make some amazing films, so lets hope he does a good job on translating this onto the big screen.

Of course, corresponding to my post about 2012, I can only presume that the tag line for the film will be “Alien Legion: Solar System Destroyers!”

Global Frequency coming to the CW

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

GlobalFrequencyToday Production Weekly tweeted that a pilot for Global Frequency was being made for the CW, written by Scott Nimerfro (Pushing Daisys).

Now this is good news to me, I was a big fan of the Warren Ellis comic back in the early 2000′s. There was even a pilot made for the WB back in 2005, but it got dropped before it even officially got released (it was unofficially leaked to the net that year though, not bad if you can find it, I liked it).

The concept is a good one that can be translated easily enough to the small screen. Essentially its a covert agency that uses smart mob techniques to mobilize its 1001 agents. From wikipedia:
The purpose of the organization is to protect and rescue the world from the consequences of the various secret projects that the governments of the world have established, which are unknown to the public at large.

Buffy Season 8 comic to become motion-comic webisodes

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

If you have been reading the Dark Horse comics produced Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 8 you know it is quality material. The TV series creator, Joss Whedon, realized that people really wanted to know what happened to Buffy and all the worlds Slayers after the series ended. So Joss continued the TV series on into comic book form.

Now, according to Sci-fi Wire, they are making a series of motion comic webisodes. Think a moving comic, not quite animation, with voice overs. It does not seem to be voiced by the original actors, but I am not to concerned by this. The comic book art was fantastically done by Georges Jeanty.

It will not be a direct shot-for-shot adaptation of the comic, so even those who have read the comic will want to tune in. No word yet on release date. But heres the voice over casting call:
