Many will not be familiar with the comic Kick-Ass it has only been out about a year and is published by Icon. It details the life of a kid, Dave Lizewski, who decides he wants to be a super-hero. Now this is the real world, where people really can’t just go out dressed in a costume and expect to fight crime without some serious repercussions. And boy, does Dave get the s--t kicked outta him.

But he heals and goes out again and again, eventually he is caught on film being a good Samaritan and is dubbed Kick-Ass. Eventually he runs into other costumed crime fighters, such as the duo Hit Girl and Big Daddy. Hit Girl may be a little girl, but she is acrobatic and martial arts trained, not someone to turn your back on.

When I first read this comic I thought it was an interesting take on the whole super-hero genre. With Mark Millar’s writing and John Romita Jr. drawing, I was quite impressed. One thing that impressed me more, they were able to sell the film rights after only 3 issues of the comic. And now, we will have a major motion picture out April 16th, 2010!
